What time does a market day begin?
In season my alarm rings at 4:20. I collect crates from two farms near Trzebnica, arrange the counter by colour and check what should be sold first. Everything looks calm at eight, but there is a small logistics operation before then.
What are customers choosing in early September?
Tomatoes are still excellent, plums are arriving and the first pumpkins appear. I tell people not to buy the whole autumn basket in one day. The flavour will shift next week. That is why a regular market visit is worthwhile.
What is the best way to ask about produce?
Tell me what you want to cook. A tomato for a sandwich and one for sauce are different choices. With a clear question I can select the variety, ripeness and quantity, and sometimes suggest an easier recipe.
